The Knuckle Joint is primarily used to find a fish in a washed out area of the well or in a crooked hole.
It is recommended that you run it on the bottom of the string with only the fishing tool below it, but you can run a pipe joint or even a full joint of drill pipe below it to reach out farther.
The fishing assembly should be run and watched close because it could dig into the well while going in hole.
When running a tool with a cut lip guide or hook, it should be adjusted to line up to contact the fish in the right position. This is done by changing the flat washers in the box on the bottom sub of the knuckle joint. You can change the reach of the knuckle joint by changing the pump pressure. When you reach the fish, you can circulate the condition of the mud or any reason necessary.
When you get ready to activate the knuckle joint by pumping a restriction plug down, be sure when you drop the plug that the fishing neck is up. The pump pressure increase when the plug eats, then you begin searching for the fish by rotating the knuckle joints about five to ten degrees and then probing for he fish after you have made a complete round, change the pump pressure and go through the same procedure several times.
When you contact the fish, stop the pump to relax the knuckle joint so it will line up with the fish. When you rotate, be sure to mark the pipe so you can go back to the same place if you lose the fish. The knuckle joint will knuckle out at 7°.
